ABSTRACT

The knowledge economy is currently considered a decisive factor in the economic development of national economies. The aim of this study is to highlight the fact that competitiveness and knowledge are two key factors in stimulating long-term economic development, innovation and sustainability. At the same time, the study points out that the importance of intellectual capital is growing in the knowledge economy, which reflects the growing dependence of intangible assets. The study also analyses how building a knowledge economy is a time-consuming and complex process, as it is related to the necessary process of breaking down social stereotypes. Global competitiveness has been one of the main goals of countries around the world in recent years, especially after the financial crisis has highlighted the need for new strategies, innovation and dynamism in the economic and business environment. At the same time, the study shows that competitiveness is a fundamental goal of every country. The creation and use of knowledge in economic activities creates goods and services with higher added value, which increases the likelihood of economic success in this competitive and globalized world economy. The results of the study show that an educated and qualified population is essential for the effective creation, acquisition and use of knowledge. Tertiary and lifelong learning increase competitiveness, as it is key to the development of human capital, which is a fundamental source of a country's competitiveness.
