ABSTRACT

In this article the author deals with the historical and social consequences of the year 1968, which entered the general awareness as the Prague Spring. He observes the wider historical context and historical parallels of the political positions of the protagonists of Alexander Dubček´s revolutionary process, which reminds us of the big figures of the reform processes in both ecclesiastical and secular sphere, the ideas of the French Revolution and the thoughts of T. G. Masaryk, co-founder of Czechoslovakia. The author also recognizes the undoubted inspirations of Dubcek´s concept of socialism with a human face for political and social motion, which is known as perestroika of M. Gorbačov. Moreover, he deals with the notion of socialism in the way Masaryk and Dubček viewed it, thus he puts in into steep conflict with the ideology of Leninism (sovietism), which was forcibly applied in the Soviet Union and in the countries of the so called Eastern Bloc.
