ABSTRACT

The contribution reflects the most frequent used political tools of totalitarian regimes. Characteristics political tools of totalitarian regimes are rule of one political party, totalitarian ideology, secret police, labor camps or propaganda. Every totalitarian regime legitimized these tools, because of mobilization the masses and authority of regimes. They need to have these tools for effective using their power and ruling the masses. The paper also shows practical using of tools in selected countries. The aim of the contribution is to demonstrate these tools and measures the effectiveness of their using. According to their effectiveness, we also want to point out which regimes were approaching the ideal of totalitarianism. Totalitarian regimes were about to rule the mass, and of course, keep the obedience and the fear of the people. The fear becomes the basic element in non-democratic regimes, especially in totalitarian regimes, such as in Nazi Germany or in the Soviet Union during the time of dictatorship of Joseph Stalin. The final aim of totalitarian regimes was total rule of the society. Ruling of the society was a crucial demand of totalitarian regimes, which they reach by combination of propaganda, totalitarian ideology and tools of terrors.
